Gamma Nu Meetings
Gamma Nu meets once a month (September - May) usually on Saturdays or Wednesdays for lunch and a guest speaker/program. We move the meetings around to various towns in our county- Yreka, Lake Shastina, and Mt. Shasta, so members can always attend the meetings closest to them.
Gamma Nu Projects
Gamma Nu is Making a Difference Throughout
Siskiyou County with Their Various Projects!
As teachers we know that reading to a young child early and frequently improves the likelihood of a successful start in school. We sponsor two early childhood reading programs: Books for Babes and the Siskiyou Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Books for Babes provides new mothers a book and guidance on the benefits of reading to their babies.
Siskiyou Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL). Young children of Siskiyou County, ages birth to 5, receive a free book a month mailed to their home from the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Our chapter helps register the children and raise the $25 per child per year for the books.

T.E.A.M.- Together Everyone Achieves More
November 30, 2021 marked our fourth year of participation in the Giving Tuesday fundraiser for the Siskiyou Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. But, many of our members started working on Giving Tuesday several weeks before the big day by sending out several hundred promotional letters and donor cards while others moved the Dolly Parton standups around the county to various businesses. On Giving Tuesday many of our members gathered together at the Community Resource Center in Mt. Shasta to watch the donations come in on the northstategives.org website. When donations were made, we immediately wrote a personal thank you card to the donor to be mailed and we made a thank you call to each person who donated. This project has convinced several teachers to become members of Gamma Nu so they could also be an integral part of this worthwhile endeavor. Thanks to the efforts of many on our TEAM the total amount received so far during our 2021 Giving Tuesday promotion is $9,691. Carolyn, Laura, Cathie and Glee are pictured at the Mt. Shasta Community Resource Center, but many more who are not pictured helped in one or more ways Dana, Sheila, Bev, Jarman, Carol W., Joan H., Andrea, Karen, Michelle, Shasta, Jean, Steve at the Resource Center and all the businesses that hosted Dolly Parton standups.
We provide toiletry items and other critical supplies for the Shelter for Domestic Violence in Yreka, where annually, over 200 women and their children seek safety.
